The building you're in only vaguely resembles the castle, if perhaps it were made of twisted white solid webs like the skeletons of a stained glass window. The air inside fairly shimmers with dancing lights like the reflection the sun on water and trailing gossamer threads that twist endlessly.

The wide circular foyer has the usual staircases but there don't seem to be any interior doors.

You're safe, but you're not home yet.

You’ve left the library behind and soon enough the whole city itself. Beyond that is large empty plane, like a blank page, populated with more strange shapes and colors and vague impressions of buildings like half-realized ideas.

The strange white castle that some of you glimpsed from atop the library is nearer now, shimmering at the horizon like a mirage. The only way appears to be forward.

Moreso because, over the city behind you, a large black amorphous shape is growing…

THE DREAMLANDS | ESCAPE

([personal profile] mirror_mod Jun. 8th, 2012 03:01 am)
Day 4

Today the group is headed off across a large blank expanse (known as the Dreamlands, in the movie). Your goal of course is the mirrorland’s equivalent of castle itself.

But you didn’t really think the rest of this journey would pass peacefully did you?

That black shape heading towards you? It’s not here to make friends.

You’ll get a couple of minutes before it gets close, during which you’ll be provided with a clue, and then the final combat will begin.

It gets a little tricky from here, so let me break it down for you.

If you haven’t realized it yet, the journals influence the place you’re in now. More than you might have realized. This sequence will be twofold – try to get to safety and use the influence of the journal to do it.

To do this, the Really Useful Book will relay your messages (and they should probably be brief because you’ll be running for your life by now), or supply helpful tips of its own.

On the castle side, the residents will write, draw, or otherwise help you create ways to defend, dodge, or hide from the massive monster racing down on you, which will become real for you.

Meanwhile do what you can to keep the monster off of you. It will function like a fairly standard tentacle monster with lots of grabbing, crushing, and smacking you around, if it gets the chance. It’s too large to really fight, but you can hit it back enough to make it withdraw and keep it away from the noncombatants.

Once you get to the castle, you’ll be completely safe (a second post will go up for this, regardless of the progress of the fight), and then you’ll have to find a way home.

Before that point, a final reveal. There are two deaths scheduled for this combat – Yuan Ka-Fai and Tim Drake Wayne. Feel free to note and react accordingly to this in the final post.

Please direct further questions here or contact a mod. Thank you.

Suddenly, the air around you seems to darken and all the books in the library fall completely silent, like someone holding their breath and then…

Every single book in the towers seems to erupt from the shelves, swirling in a confused and angry mass of pages, battering themselves against the residents inside. They might just be books, but thousands of slicing pages seems a rather unpleasant prospect for anybody.

Probably time to get out of there, and now…

((OOC: This event will trigger an undetermined amount of time after the group has had a chance to inspect Paradisa’s book. Unfortunately the info on that is forthcoming, but you can assume it has been investigated and it will be resolved as soon as possible. For the sake of pacing, this is going up now.))

Eventually the group finds themselves in a new part of the city. The stone is cleaner, the air is brighter, and everything seems far better cared for. Whether this is illusion or truth, it’s hard to mistake the trickling sound of a fountain ahead, drawing you into view of a massive open courtyard. Rising out of the middle of it is a tall building with a strangely crooked spire, topped with a globe like a watchful eye.

Closer, it’s easy to read the carved sign above the doorway.

Day 3

You will all find yourself at the library today (spotted some time earlier by a few of your group members). Take your time to explore, because it can clarify a lot for you.

Things you will soon notice (this will be revealed in the event thread, but just to be certain everyone is clear on these points):
  • The books aren’t just books. They’re journals. However, they all look different, as if befitting the person whose name is printed on it’s cover.
  • Each journal contains ONLY the entries (and corresponding conversations) of the person that originally penned/dictated them.
  • They do not bend space and time to fit to a certain size, however. Each book is exactly the size it should be, depending on how much is written in them (with a little blank space at the end).
  • Also unlike the original journals they do not transmit sound.
  • Additionally, all filtered sections will still remain filtered.

As per the castle’s book on the top level, it is in fact locked up in that cage. Getting at it may not be impossible, however, depending on how hard you wish you try.

Sometime later today there will be a second plot post that will cover the group being forced to leave the library. Exactly when, how, and why this happens may be different depending on your course of action. That said, keep an eye out for that.

And that’s all for today. Questions can be addressed here, as always.

It's hard to tell how long you've been walking, but it doesn't seem like you're getting anywhere. The streets are too confusing and the sights too strange. Maybe the city is a maze, or it's simply popping new ones into existence as you go.

Something seems different though. It's hard to place at first, but there is more of that ghostly writing in the air, and how one piece of it clearly says Fred. Coincidence, perhaps?

And then there is the feeling that you're being watched. Maybe that's just the random faces etched into the walls...or maybe not...

((OOC: As usual, wait for sections! Go go go...))

EXPLORING | SPHINXES

([personal profile] mirror_mod Jun. 6th, 2012 10:43 am)
Day 2

Today will be much the same as the first. Continue exploring the city. Gosh, it just seems to go on forever. Or maybe you're lost?

You'll also notice that it doesn't really feel like time passes here. There is no sunrise or sunset or any visible celestial bodies for that matter. The light is what it is.

A note on the Sphinxes - yes, that is what they are called, even though there is...nobody to around to actually tell you that lmao, although the connection might be easy to make. If there is any character around that knows their mythology, remember that sphinxes are traditionally connected with knowledge and riddles. ;)

As usual, questions can go here. Have fun!

The first sign is maybe different for all of you – the hard ground underneath you, the lack of a body next to you, or no blanket to pull over your shoulders when you reach for it. Either way, when you open your eyes you know for certain you aren’t in the castle.

It’s a little too quiet here, except for the sounds of people around you moving about. There is a strange, unreal quality about everything, as if were viewed through the grimy patina of an old piece of film or photograph and half-realized blurs of images and words seems to hang suspended in the air like solid smoke – there but not quite there.

The group seems to be at the edge of a dead forest, the trees dark and twisted and the ground swirling with mist. A path seems to lead into the depths, but the sky that way is cast with dark umber and hanging shadows that don’t seem terribly inviting.

Not far off, however, is a long stone bridge stretching over a chasm of nothingness and leading to what looks like a city. Far beyond the rooftops, there is the briefest glimmer of dazzling light, gone almost as soon as you see it.

((OOC: WAIT FOR SECTIONS PLEASE! Aaaaaand GO!))

WAKING UP | THE CITY

Day 1 & General Info

Welcome to Mirrorland Plot!

You characters have disappeared without a trace during the night and wake up in this strange landscape.

Basic things you need to know:
  • You will arrive in the same state as you went to sleep in. No weapons or armor, unless you sleep with your guns for some reason. If you happen to have been nude, however, you will find yourself in a neutral set of pajamas.
  • Everyone is depowered. You do NOT need to be humanized , however. If you in some way rely on your powers, see below
  • Most basic bodily functions and things you require to keep you alive are suspended. You do not feel hungry or thirsty or anything of that nature, though you will still need to rest
  • More specifically, for the duration of their time in this place, unless otherwise specified, whenever you look through a window, you will see inside to your room in Paradisa. Even if two people are looking at the same window, it is only their own room that they see.
On a more general note, I’d like to ask that you all try to keep the plot comm a secret from everyone else while the plot is going on. It’s important that there is a certain amount of disconnect between you and the rest of the residents. Once it’s over, feel free to share at will!

And that’s about all for now. Get to exploring!

If you have any questions, feel free to drop them here or contact a mod

Day 1

This isn’t where you went to sleep last night. It’s not your room and certainly not the castle. In fact, there’s nothing very natural about where you are at all. Did you wake up inside a Dali painting? Because that’s what it’s like. There might even be a melting clock around here somewhere – who knows. Time to explore and find out.

OOC | Day 1 Post

Day 2

Still no sign of the other residents and no way home, but maybe there are clues around you, if you look in the right place. Beware the native residents while you’re at it though.

Don’t let them see you’re afraid.

OOC | Day 2 Post

Day 3

It’s like it appeared out of nowhere, but you finally find your way to this large building. The inside – a massive library that matches the scope of Paradisa’s own. But the books on the shelves aren’t just books – and that’s not just counting the flying.

OOC | The Library | The escape

Day 4

Something here wants you out. And now. You don’t have a lot of time. Fight. Run. Call for help. Home is on the horizon, but you have to act fast to get there alive.
