Day 1
The first sign is maybe different for all of you – the hard ground underneath you, the lack of a body next to you, or no blanket to pull over your shoulders when you reach for it. Either way, when you open your eyes you know for certain you aren’t in the castle.
It’s a little too quiet here, except for the sounds of people around you moving about. There is a strange, unreal quality about everything, as if were viewed through the grimy patina of an old piece of film or photograph and half-realized blurs of images and words seems to hang suspended in the air like solid smoke – there but not quite there.
The group seems to be at the edge of a dead forest, the trees dark and twisted and the ground swirling with mist. A path seems to lead into the depths, but the sky that way is cast with dark umber and hanging shadows that don’t seem terribly inviting.
Not far off, however, is a long stone bridge stretching over a chasm of nothingness and leading to what looks like a city. Far beyond the rooftops, there is the briefest glimmer of dazzling light, gone almost as soon as you see it.
((OOC:WAIT FOR SECTIONS PLEASE! Aaaaaand GO!))

WAKING UP | THE CITY

Sláinte, Doctor. Are ye fairin' well?
[Noah's only in grey pajama pants, a 9mm gun stuck unceremoniously in his wasteband. He's covered with familiar scars.]
no subject
[He smiles lightly, his eyes darting to the gun and frowning somewhat. He can put two and two together; that means he slept with it.]
I'm fine. How are you?
[And the scars. He noticed them when he was operating before, and the scars on the boys... Of course, he hides his curiosity quite well.]
no subject
Other than wakin' up in ... wha' the bloody hell is that?
[Cue the school of fish swimming by in the air.]
no subject
[Carson... seems oddly calm. Well, this is a man who's traveled across a different galaxy.]
We can assume that this is the castle's bloody doing.
no subject
[Noah watches the fish turn a corner 'round a building. He's thrown for a loop, but he's not bouncing off the walls.]
Doesnae seem t'matter, though.
[And as if he's decided it doesn't matter, he rolls his shoulders and sets his jaw. Back to business.]
I've been told this may be th' dead zone. D'ye have any idea?
[If he doesn't mind, Noah's going to start wandering again. He's searching, but he doesn't quite know what it will be until he sees it.]
no subject
It could well be. It's disabled my Detector. I'm not sure if it's disabled my gene, the tech or both, but it's curious...
no subject
[Noah didn't move like a man his age, and one who'd been near-fatally injured on top of it. MacManus' healed fast, and Noah himself moved like a cat.]
What're you on about, a gene?
[This was news to him, though he wasn't sure what sort.]
no subject
This is an ancient peice of technology. [He taps the scanner.] Maybe millions of years old. It has a lock on it that prevents anyone without a specific gene using it. A security system.
I'm a potent carrier of said gene, and this place may be inhibiting it.
no subject
Oh, aye? I've heard of the sort, like palm-readers an' optical scans. Dinnae if it's a good comparison, though.
Sounds a bit strange, not workin' when ye've got th' key right there with ye.
