Day 1

The first sign is maybe different for all of you – the hard ground underneath you, the lack of a body next to you, or no blanket to pull over your shoulders when you reach for it. Either way, when you open your eyes you know for certain you aren’t in the castle.

It’s a little too quiet here, except for the sounds of people around you moving about. There is a strange, unreal quality about everything, as if were viewed through the grimy patina of an old piece of film or photograph and half-realized blurs of images and words seems to hang suspended in the air like solid smoke – there but not quite there.

The group seems to be at the edge of a dead forest, the trees dark and twisted and the ground swirling with mist. A path seems to lead into the depths, but the sky that way is cast with dark umber and hanging shadows that don’t seem terribly inviting.

Not far off, however, is a long stone bridge stretching over a chasm of nothingness and leading to what looks like a city. Far beyond the rooftops, there is the briefest glimmer of dazzling light, gone almost as soon as you see it.

WAKING UP | THE CITY

[The first thing Cole can sense as he wakes up is his total lack of powers... And a sense of panic. He sits bolt upright.]

No powers... Can still feel...

[There was still that sense of his demonic side, but Belthazor still sleeps, and he doesn't need his strength to keep him at bay. Seems this place does more than depower...]

Thank god...

[Hellboy's just making his rounds, ensuring that anyone who seems particularly out of sorts is alright.

So, this guy certainly pings him.] You alright?

[Cole gets to his feet, dusting himself off. He was still fully dressed in his usual attire of a casual suit and jacket, having just fallen asleep in the chair in his room.]

I'm fine. I was worried for a second, there...

That's a pretty normal reaction for waking up transported.

I'm used to waking up in strange places. More that my powers are gone.

Huh. [He looks around.] Then I wonder if we're in a new part of the Dead Zone.

I dunno, but I'm getting a very bad feeling. It's too quiet.

Could be the castle's trying to send us on a vacation. [He's joking.]

I preferred the flood.

[hellshaped]

I'd prefer going back home. But what can you do.

Work on getting back?

[He offers a hand.]

Cole Turner.

[hellshaped]

[Oh no, handshakes are always awkward......... deciding that extending his left hand would be worse than the alternative, Hellboy holds out his great stone right hand instead, extending the index finger for Cole to grasp.]

Hellboy.

[Geoff glances over at the familiar voice and hurries over to him, resting a hand on Cole's shoulder.]

Cole. Are you all right?

Yeah... Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks, Geoff...

[Getting up now, dusting himself off.]
