Day 1

The first sign is maybe different for all of you – the hard ground underneath you, the lack of a body next to you, or no blanket to pull over your shoulders when you reach for it. Either way, when you open your eyes you know for certain you aren’t in the castle.

It’s a little too quiet here, except for the sounds of people around you moving about. There is a strange, unreal quality about everything, as if were viewed through the grimy patina of an old piece of film or photograph and half-realized blurs of images and words seems to hang suspended in the air like solid smoke – there but not quite there.

The group seems to be at the edge of a dead forest, the trees dark and twisted and the ground swirling with mist. A path seems to lead into the depths, but the sky that way is cast with dark umber and hanging shadows that don’t seem terribly inviting.

Not far off, however, is a long stone bridge stretching over a chasm of nothingness and leading to what looks like a city. Far beyond the rooftops, there is the briefest glimmer of dazzling light, gone almost as soon as you see it.

WAKING UP | THE CITY

[ Waking up on the floor is the last place Kate expected to be. This isn't a rooftop on the City Royale and she's not in costume when she should be. Instead, she's in a regular tank top and shorts, and she doesn't recall slipping back into those.

She's immediately vigilant and scoping out who else has been brought here. She does not look very pleased as she checks out the surrounding area. This doesn't look like the forest near the castle... ]

Now what?

[detectivegenius]

[Tim does not like this at all. No weapons. No suit. Nothing but his person and his brain. Looking around at all the people to see who all is there, he finally spots a familiar face. Thank god, someone he trusts. He makes his way over to her.]

Kate?

[gevurah]

Tim. [ There's some relief behind it, but whatever it is that brought them here got another nocturnal ally without him noticing. Not good. She's really starting to dislike the magic of this world even more than she does. ]

Everything okay on your end?

[detectivegenius]

[He nods, taking in more of their surroundings.] I'm fine. Just confused. You think this is a world change...?

[gevurah]

Hard to tell. [ It's possible they've all been scattered, but wouldn't they still have journals on them? ] World changes don't happen this often.

[ Her voice drops now. ]

What's the last thing you remember?

[detectivegenius]

I... think I fell asleep at my desk. I was in the middle of re-organizing all the information Lois gave us the other day in my private journal.

[gevurah]

[ The memory is a bit foggy to her, to her frustration. ]

Patrol here. Then... I think I felt tired.

[detectivegenius]

You were on patrol? In costume? [He's a little surprised because... yeah she's not in costume now. Maybe whatever brought them there doesn't want them to be able to fight back.] Do you have anything on you that you might be able to use as a weapon?

[gevurah]

[ She nods at the first part. It's followed by her setting her face into a frown. ]

Nothing. All of it was in my belt or gauntlet.

[hellshaped]

[Oh -- he'd recognize that vampire skin anywhere!

Hellboy's just dressed in shorts. No coat, not even a belt. How weird.]

I think we're in another dimension.

[gevurah]

[ Oh no, his pouches!! ]

I have a bad feeling you're right.

[hellshaped]

[How will he carry his collection of random objects now?]

There's usually weird stuff in these. So at least I didn't get turned into something else this time. [Because even without weapons, he's not exactly useless in a fight, if it comes down to it.]

[gevurah]

If you usually have powers, can you still use them?

[hellshaped]

[He thinks about that for a second, rubbing his chin.]

Well. The ones I've been in have been filled with ghosts and other supernatural things -- so, probably, if it's anything like the pocket dimensions in the real world. But it could operate differently.

[gevurah]

I wonder if this is where the kids ended up last spring.

[hellshaped]

It could be. I've only been Underground once, back on Earth. But this seems like it might be similar. [He gestures toward the creepy dead forest shrouded in fog over there.]

[gevurah]

Underground? [ She's curious; what's he seen there that might be here? ]

[persequor]

[ Arya tilts her head and bites her tongue on her observation that the whores she saw in King's Landing showed less skin. ]

I think we're going into the city. Least that's what that man said.

[gevurah]

[ She looks at Arya and can't help a frown. Always going to hate Paradisa's creepy affinity for dragging children into its messes. ]

We'll need to look for supplies, if there's any. Finding food and shelter before it gets... darker.

[ Is it night or day? Who even knows. ]

You okay?

[persequor]

[ She rolls her eyes. So many inquiring into her health is starting to get really weird. ]

I'm fine.

[gevurah]

Good. [ She looks over at the bridge. ] Has anyone taken a headcount yet?

[persequor]

Not that I know.

[gevurah]

Alright. [ She'll count the heads on her own, but she's definitely going to need names later. As her eyes pass from person to person: ] What's your name?

[persequor]

Arya.

[gevurah]
