Day 3

Eventually the group finds themselves in a new part of the city. The stone is cleaner, the air is brighter, and everything seems far better cared for. Whether this is illusion or truth, it’s hard to mistake the trickling sound of a fountain ahead, drawing you into view of a massive open courtyard. Rising out of the middle of it is a tall building with a strangely crooked spire, topped with a globe like a watchful eye.

Closer, it’s easy to read the carved sign above the doorway.

[I'm pretty sure we have, but it's been a long time and it wasn't much. So it's not a big deal.]

[If Kate tries to look, the entries in this particular book only go back as far as this particular person had been in the castle. Also, she may notice that the conversations take up exactly as much room on the page as they would in a normal book, instead of seeming to all fit within the same page like they do in the castle volumes]

[Dhaos quietly mutters a 'thank you' to her as he takes her place at the spyglass. Yep. That sure is a whole lot of nothing.]

Curious... One would think there would at least be signs of animal activity, or whatever serves as such here.

[He too backs off in case anyone else is curious.]

I guess that's our next pit stop.

[ She'll take a look herself. ]

[He nods, looking around the room] Well there's only one way to find out what's out there, right? There's only so much you can see from a distance.

[Is that a little bit of regret in his voice? Maybe. He just might be speaking from experience, here]

It's like the journals we use back in the castle. The conversations don't fit into one page, though.

[ She starts to head down, hopping off before the last few steps when she's close to the floor. ]

Wouldn't our surrounding look that way, then? Mirrored. Some of this is familiar... but some other parts aren't.

[We'll be sure to make a habit of getting these two together then!]

You're with York and Delta then? [Her expression warms at those names.]

It just had to be a library, didn't it. [Danny is scowling as he trudges through the rooms.]

[Yuan nods, scanning the 'flock'.]

There, one's separated a bit. You take the other side, we'll bring it down together.

[The amount of grace evident as the other woman moves isn't lost on Fred]

I don't know. The only thing I do know is I'm tired of having more questions than answers.

You and I both. [ She peers up at the quill, watching it get back to work. ] There's got to be something that will clue us in on an exit. If the other residents aren't already looking for that, but sounds like they just started checking to see who's missing.

I'm sorry I haven't even taken the chance to introduce myself. I am Yuuya, and I believe you should keep a close eye on that book you carry, for it seems to be one of a kind.

With any luck, the residents won't try to kill us.

[The flat tone might just be suggesting that the opposite is not an uncommon event for him at all.]

[Dhaos doesn't respond, but moves in the indicated direction. He attempts to herd it a bit further out from the rest in order to make it a bit easier to capture.]

[And while he's distracting it, Yuan goes in for the kill, managing to catch it in the net and bring it down for a look.]

...It's a journal?

[She glances at the other woman]

Why do I think that wouldn't be the case if you were there to lead the charge?

[Dhaos peers over Yuan's shoulder - not a difficult feat at his height - casually observing the book.]

...It appears so.

Yuan actually has the experience doing that.

[Nods.] As well as any other member of Project Freelancer that's been at the castle.

[ Animals should just stick to not talking if all they will do is point out the obvious. ]

Someone here's asking about his lot. [ Rude, strange person. Even if Arya would also only care about her family. ]

[Fred looks around them again, pushing down a bubble of uncertainty. Kate is right. It still feels like they're being watched]

They're journals.

[Noah replaces it, then pages through another, and another. All the same sort of thing.]

Some of 'em I recognize from Paradisa.

[He plucks the next one out of the air that comes flying at their heads.]

Same thing. I dinnae what t'make of it, but 'tis as buggered up as th' rest of this place.
